Use the form below to search for documents in this Web site containing specific words or combinations of words. The text search engine will display a weighted list of matching documents, with better matches shown first. Each list item is a link to a matching document; if the document has a title it will be shown, otherwise only the document's file name is displayed. A brief explanation of the query language is available, along with examples.

• The Search function depends on a low priority indexing routine on the web server and files are changed frequently on this web site.  It's possible that the search results box may list files which have been moved or deleted from the web server.
• The list of matching documents may also show pages where your search terms are simply located in the navigation links, not the body of the web page.  The first file in the list is usually the best place to start.
• The Contents (Site Map) page is a listing of every accessible file on the web server.  It's an extensive list but, most web browsers have a Find (MS-IE: Ctrl+F) function allowing you to search for text over an entire page.
• Feel free to E-mail NTS if you can not locate the information you need.

Query Language

The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:

information retrieval

finds documents containing 'information' or 'retrieval'

information or retrieval

same as above

information and retrieval

finds documents containing both 'information' and 'retrieval'

information not retrieval

finds documents containing 'information' but not 'retrieval'

(information not retrieval) and WAIS

finds documents containing 'WAIS', plus 'information' but not 'retrieval'

web*

finds documents containing words starting with 'web'
