Model 506 Quality Assurance System
Description
The Trienco Model 506 Quality Assurance System, commonly known as a “blow detector”
is the first successful device developed for the purpose of detecting delaminated
areas in wood fiber based panel products.

Well over 200 of these units are installed and operating 24/7 and collectively
account for millions of on-line hours of service, having inspected
billions of panels. The Trienco Model 506 is the industry “workhorse”
and is still in production after over 30 years of industry service and, is
fully supported and serviced by Automation Industries Corporation. With reasonable
care, these units seem to have a life expectancy of around 25 years.
There are two reasons for this, the first being that they are tough, the second
reason is the modularity and form, fit and function design that prevents obsolescence.
Parts from a unit produced last week will fit and function in one of these
units that was produced 30 years ago, even though the semiconductors, etc.
on those parts don’t even resemble those found on the parts produced 30 years
ago.
Features of the Model 506
- Well proven, great longevity, durable and experienced with a very
wide range of products in a wide range of environments.
- The 506 is simple, uses no imbedded computers.
- It scans panels for internal lack of bond defects, determines
whether or not they exceed a size that is easily set by the user, and
marks the position and size the defect exceeds the allowable size.....no more,
no less. An optional module produces an “OR” signal with a guaranteed
100msec duration through a dry contact closure to be read
by a PLC for sorter control purposes.
- Its design is full form, fit and function which essentially eliminates obsolescence.
- Allowable defect size may be set differently for each scan zone, providing
tighter control of outside edges than the center.
- Collimated beam transmitters and receivers provide sharp definition of defects
in adverse conditions.
- Produced in antistatic environment, pre-shipment burn in.
- Antifungal, anti-humidity coatings on circuit boards.
- Air-coupled, noncontact, nonintrusive, no moving parts.
